In 1998, Stanford grad and Tiger Woods classmate Casey Martin was a struggling new tour player that qualified for the Open at Olympic. Martin famously rode a golf cart in tour events due to a birth defect in his leg. This practice led to a law suit between him and the PGA. Martin won the law suit and continued to use the cart, but his career faded and he was off tour by 2004. He is now the golf coach at Oregon. His only major appearance was his tie for 23th at the ’98 US Open at Olympic.
Martin won a sectional qualifying event and will be playing in this year’s open (at Olympic again). His second appearance in a major.
