Open apology to Rue De Jean. We’ve spent 10 years avoiding this place due to being too touristy and too french. But we had one of the best meal in recent memory along with some of the classiest service on Friday. We will be back. There was a Sydney look-a-like in the table behind us. Right down to the shoes.
Saturday is cheat day on the new diet where we load calories to ramp up the metabolism. I chose the Hominy Grill “Big Nasty” MMMMMM.
After polishing off the big nasty. Ava entertained the restaurant with glass concert. 110226hominy
Then after some shopping on king street, we stepped into King Street Grill to catch up on hoops scores and to watch Bubba Watson choke against Kaymer. Ava set several high scores in the bar top video game 110226bar
All right SANDRA… where are the promised pictures of the toddlers with chocolate cupcake all over their faces? Happy first birthday Pierce, Ava’s future beau. Thanks for hosting us.
me: 1,2,….8,9,10 ready or not here I come !
ava: Here I am!
Stewart is on Jury Duty this week, so Ava is trying out full days at school. So far she loves it. She even takes a nap at school… which she amost never does at home any longer. We stopped in Fat Hen after school last night for dinner. We were sitting at the bar and she ordered a “Hugo sin gas” or non fizzy fruit juice. AND THE BARTENDER UNDERSTOOD HER.
Another cute story while I’m rambling. Our Friend Kelly reported to Stewart that she was sitting with her daughters and some other kids at school having a muffin. Ava walked up to the table and asked “Do you mind if I join you?” Kelly said she was blown away by the Ava’s display of manors.
Here’s pic of Ava at breakfast Monday. The shiner on the left eye is healing nicely.
I was a bit overzealous with the video this weekend. Guess I missed the little reptile while I was gone. Here is Ava conquering the sliding pole at our neighborhood playground for the first time, then hitting the huge blow up slide at the Southeast Wildlife Expo. Its hard to capture on video the pure joy on her face as she came down this slide (over and over and over). We bought the $10 all you can slide ticket and came out way ahead.
I somehow missed any pictures of the birds and dogs at the expo. We spent a lovely saturday afternoon watching the big air contest from the river. Also no vids, but that is when Ava got excited and busted her eye on the side of the boat.

“You should see the other guy!” Ava versus side of PJ’s boat. The boat wins. Right before this pic, I asked “does your eye hurt this morning?” She puts her finger and thumb together and whipers. “just a little bit”.
Sunday morning trip to earthfare turns into 5 laps around the store for well over an hour. She likes the mini shopping carts. video-> 110220shopping
Citadel Awards Parade on Friday afternoon. Finally made it down there after 8 years of talking about going. The best free show in Charleston. video-> 110218 parade
Ava got her new bike for Valentines Day. We are now learning to pedal AND steer at the same time. She seems to like pushing it around more than riding it, but is doing a little of both.
Ava said to Stewart “You’re never going to find your sunglasses where I hid them in that drawer”
Walking around downtown, we stumbled upon the CoC womens Alumni game. pic of the game taken by Ava…
Bed Jumping 110204bedjumping from last night
Ava has spent the last hour watching videos of herself from year 1 and providing commentary… “I’m mad there because I don’t want to go to bed”…
AG came up for the afternoon with Anne. Lunch at Virginia’s on King and lots of time playing on the floor. I think Ava likes the new puffy luggage! 110128luggage this went on all weekend.
Tobacco Road, Downtown Durham. A wall of TV’s, leather chairs with table service, and a back deck that hangs over left field of the Durham Bulls’ Park. The food is pretty good too. That’s Courtney and Stewart’s college friend Kelly after a long late lunch and watching Duke throttle Wake.

Two years after making the switch to Apple, I made my first trip to the apple store genius bar last night. I went in to buy a new keyboard because SOMEBODY dumped apple juice on my mac and my space bar was sticking. Two hours later they had detailed my mac, fixed my keyboard and optimized by OS to make it run faster, then they replaced my iphone because my home button was acting up. All this for free. I’m blown away by the level of customer service at that place.
We are back home and have been reunited with the dogs. Ava went to school today and caught up with the other three musketeers (AnnieGracieAndKate). Since we no longer have live video feed and Ava rarely sits still long enough for anybody to see her on it, I am considering sutting down avacam site and just use this for Grandparent updates. Any comments? Has anybody figured out how to add RSS feed to your inbox, so you get an email update every time we make a new post?
Just had lunch with Syd and Randi during atlanta layover. Very icy here still.
Heading North tonight. Sad to go, but looking forward to seeing dogs family and friends again.
